Viral video clips seemed to capture Jones making an obscene gesture at Jets fans, though he insists he was actually signaling approval to Dallas supporters in attendance as his team secured a 37-22 victory.
“That was unfortunate. It was essentially an exchange with our fans seated near me,” Jones explained during a Tuesday interview. “There was a swarm of Cowboys fans—not New York fans, our fans. The whole venue was filled with excitement for the Dallas team.”
He further clarified that the signal was completely accidental, occurring amid the elation following the team’s final touchdown. “I simply showed the wrong finger,” he noted. “The action was accidentally performed. This is sincere. If you want to call it unplanned, you can. However, it got corrected rapidly.”
